Saturday on the Beach

With temperatures predicted to be on the wrong side of 105 degF, it didn't take much encoragement from my lovely wife to wake up early and head over to Carpinteria. When we got there, I saw a few friendly faces from the KRFF club who also decided it was time to get out of town and enjoy a day on the beach.

One around the Taj Mahal point, I found some very obvious, toss-a-fly-here water and proceeded to fish a couple of sides of a great trough

I was very surprised to find no perch at home. I didn't land a perch at all on this trip, However I found 3 nice halibut, one pushing legal size, at home in this trough. Fun stuff on a 4wt

Yes, it's the Jim Teeny model TFO. Once I saw that TFO offered a fighting butt on that model rod I couldn't resist it. I picked it up a few years back and I love it. It's a nice deep green color which I think looks great. I cast a 150 grn SA WetTip Express on it and it's my preferred rod for the summer So Cal surf. It doesn't handle much wind but I normally fish in the morning to avoid the afternoon winds.
