Re-designing fliflicker.com - Your input needed!
Ian and I are in the beginning stages of a complete overhaul of fliflicker.com
We have always considered this YOUR website and although we administer and pay the meager cost of running it, it is really you, the members that make
the site possible and keep it going.
So, we are asking for your input on how to make the site better for you and our membership.
We will be building it from the ground up which will basically make just about anything possible (except actually attaching the fish to your fly :O)
and we should be able to keep all of the 17,000+ posts and threads so we can maintain a searchable database for everyone. Your member information will
also remain secure and intact. While were at it, we might delete some current features that are not being used. Everything is on the table right now,
so now is the time to let us know what you like and don’t like – what YOU would like to see!
Some obvious changes that are already in the works…
- A simpler, more robust posting tool that allows one to use “rich text”, attach multiple photos, video etc. quickly and easily.
- A secure automatic registration system for new members
- Additional options for posting by category for things like used gear, special events, member articles, fly swaps, whatever!
- Additional administrative tools that will allow administrators greater control and the ability to update and maintain the site more easily.
As always the site will be commercial free, ad free and member led!
It may take some time and there might be some bumps along the way but I think the changes will be well worth any inconvenience. Your patience is
appreciated
In the mean time, tight lines to all!
Doug and Ian

I've only used it a couple of times, but the messaging system feels like I jumped into a time travel machine and went back to the 80's.

mk4,
It might be helpful if you'd elaborate a little.

geez, maybe I'm getting old (born in the 50s), but I really like
the board as is.
There is lots of great info in the old posts so I really
hope they can all be saved and left searchable. Also, it would be
great if the attachments/images could be saved in all the old posts -
sometimes, like fly pics, these are the most important part of the
post. On at least a few bboards, the old images are not saved --
these bboards rely on links to attachments stored on personal accounts on other sites like
photobucket so when those other accounts lapse, the attachments are lost.
Thanks for a great bboard that has enriched all of our lives!

Doug and Crew,
Steve P. brings up a good point, you guys have developed an excellent site and I'm so glad you host this site. The only problems I ever have is due
to my own ineptitude on these high fallutin' computer systems. You probably own one of the best data bases on SoCal surf and bay fishing in
existence.
Thanks for adding another bit of pleasure to my life,
JoeA.

I wish that I had some worthwhile suggestions, but I really don't. I like everything about the website and I am sure that the improvements that you
make will be great. I always appreciated this website for the information, but since I have become more active, I can't believe the amount of new
friends that I have made. Thanks for all you do.

Many cheers to you and Ian! Doug your website is a great resource for building community. I certainly appreciate what the two of you do.
I know this is going to sound "old school" but don't get caught up with bells-n-whistles. A clean functional site offering solid information and a
chance to participate in a fine community is all you need for success. You are doing fine work!
3 Cheers, Ken

Hey Doug,
The only addition I would suggest is when you send someone a U2U they would get an e-mail saying either the whole U2U, or that they received one, I
often don't notice I got a U2U for several days. Thanks for a great sight!!

Thank you for all you do.
I am still in the learning stages. The people who post are my education. I would love info on local spots, tides or waves. I currently use FishHead
and Oakely Surf report to compile what's happening in the surf. I dont know that if it is possible to link into something like these sights
but...
What ever you do I am sure it will be great,
Thanks B Happy
